1960s: forests and and aquatic systems

INRA began focusing on natural systems in 1964. It created forestry research stations in Nancy, Avignon, and Bordeaux and aquatic research stations in Biarritz and Thonon-les-Bains. This move shows that, as early as the 1960s, INRA was combining research in agronomy and forestry; in most other countries, the two disciplines were being studied at distinct research institutes. From this point forward, INRA focused on developing its regional research programmes.
