Four accredited Carnot 3 Institutes

Plant2Pro, a new Carnot Institute for INRA

Plant2Pro is the fourth Carnot Institute led by INRA to have been accredited, after Qualiment, 3Bcar and France Futur Élevage. Its objective is to foster innovations that will serve the competitiveness of plant production.

Produce more and better.  Plant2Pro (Innovations for the Sustainable Competitiveness of Plant Production) is the fourth Carnot Institute to be led by INRA and it received its accreditation in June 2016.  It aims to ensure the dual economic and environmental performance of plant production through a systemic vision that combines varietal innovations, crop protection, agronomy, cropping systems and digital and precision agriculture.  Plant2Pro federates actors in research and R&D - notably those involved in cereal, oilseed and protein crops and vines - in order to propose multidisciplinary, coherent and unified services for companies working in the different sectors of seeds and plants, crop protection, agricultural development and consulting and precision farming.  The objective of Plant2Pro is to ensure sustainable competitiveness in these sectors so that despite the constraints linked to climate change or the need to preserve the environment, the qualitative and quantitative needs of plant production can be met.

Led by INRA, Plant2Pro groups 14 research units and three agricultural technical institutes, Arvalis, the French Vine and Wine Institute and Terres Innovia. Through their joint research units, it associates CNRS and four agricultural schools (AgroParisTech, AgroCampus Ouest, AgroSup Dijon and Montpellier SupAgro). Benefiting from more than 1260 full-tenure scientists with national and international reputations, Plant2Pro can offer integrated research skills that range from the scale of the plant to that of the agrosystem, systemic knowledge (genetics, breeding, biotechnologies, plant protection, phenotyping, agronomy and cropping systems) and skills in different sectors (cereal, oilseed and protein crops and vine).  It will benefit from strong governance that will enable the involvement of industrial partners and the development of essential links with pre-existing structures in this area (competitiveness clusters, the Scientific Interest Groups for Green Biotechnologies and Arable Crops with High Economic and Environmental Performance, public-private consortium on biocontrol, etc.).
