After several years of close collaboration between Canadian and French research teams, thirteen institutional partners from Canada and France, including Université Laval and France’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), today founded the International Research Network Food4BrainHealth. The new network is dedicated to nutrition and brain health, from predictive biology to disease prevention and treatment.

On 23 May 2018, Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA; Alain Schuhl, Deputy Director General in Charge of Scientific Affairs at CNRS; Pascal Loubière, Deputy Director of the Joint Research Unit for the Engineering of Biological Systems and Processes (INRA, CNRS, INSA Toulouse) for INSA Toulouse; Matthew Chang, Director of the SynCTI Laboratory for the National University of Singapore; and Benjamin Seet, Executive Director of the Biotransformation Innovation Platform, signed a letter of intent to create a new international associated laboratory (LIA) in systems biology and synthetic biology applied to the bioeconomy.

In early May 2018, Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, visited South America to strengthen the Institute’s long-standing scientific commitments and develop new opportunities. Several agreements were signed during his trip.

On 12 April 2018, Philippe Mauguin, INRA President, and Vladimir Sucha, Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, signed a five-year agreement in Paris to reinforce cooperation in the fields of agriculture and climate change research.

From 9-15 March 2018, on the occasion of the French President’s visit to India, accompanied by the Minister of Research and Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, several draft agreements were signed with a view to strengthening cooperation with France’s Indian partners. Several new International Associated Laboratories were created in key fields: genomic selection in cattle; the microbiota and metagenome in liver disease; grey water treatment and methanisation; and the plant protein content of diets. Philippe Mauguin and Mr. G.G. Sohani, president of Bharatiya Agro Industries Foundation (BAIF), together hosted a roundtable discussion during the Franco-Indian summit.
