The formation and evolution of dietary behaviours and preferences in young children

The European HabEat project, coordinated by INRA in Dijon and involving ten partners from six European countries, enabled a clearer understanding of how dietary behaviours and preferences develop during the early years of life.

Large-scale diversification processes affecting soil bacterial communities

The spatial distribution of soil microbial communities, and the processes involved in this distribution, are still generally unknown at a large scale (landscape, region, territory).  We have shown for the first time that the taxa-area relationship was significant at a large scale in the case of bacterial communities, and was positively correlated to the diversity and heterogeneity of soil habitats.

An unconsciously perceived odour may have an impact on food choices

A significant proportion of our behaviours and food choices is influenced by non-conscious processes.  Two studies have been performed in this area, and for the first time we were able to show that a fruity odour (melon/pear) perceived unconsciously had an impact on  food choices in adults, guiding them towards fruits or vegetables.

Par des techniques de microscopie innovantes, on peut observer les domaines plus ou moins structurés de la MEMBRANE plasmique de cellules végétales. la MEMBRANE plasmique d'une cellule de tabac, cultivée en suspension, est marquée avec une sonde sensible au degré d'organisation de cette MEMBRANE . La cellule apparait alors comme une mosaique de petites régions présentant un fort (couleur chaude) ou plus faible (couleur froide) degré d'ordre. © P Gerbeau

The plasma membrane of plants: a key to pest detection and defence mechanisms

The development of an innovative imaging technique has enabled the demonstration that the plasma membrane of plant cells is a mosaic of territories, each presenting varied biophysical properties.  The global and local organisation of this membrane is modified very rapidly in response to certain molecules arising from micro-organisms, thus establishing a functional link between this organisation and the development of defence mechanisms
