In early May 2018, Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, visited South America to strengthen the Institute’s long-standing scientific commitments and develop new opportunities. Several agreements were signed during his trip.

The result of several years of collaboration between the Joint Research Unit for the Science and Technology of Milk and Eggs (STLO) and scientists at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, this International Associated Laboratory is the first for INRA with a South American country. It is also the first International Associated Laboratory to be managed by an INRA team in Bretagne-Normandie.
On 11 March 2013, François Houllier, President of INRA and Maurício Antônio Lopes, Director-President of EMBRAPA (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária), a Brazilian agricultural research organisation, signed a new five-year partnership agreement aimed at developing joint projects via metaprogrammes at INRA and macroprogrammes at EMBRAPA which focus on the research priorities of both organisations.
