On 17 October 2018, Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA and Marc Michel, President of IRSTEA, submitted to Frédérique Vidal, Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Didier Guillaume, Minister of Agriculture and Food, their progress report regarding the creation of a single research institution following the merger of INRA and IRSTEA on 1st January 2020.

On 19 September 2018, twenty representatives from the Special Committee on the Union’s authorisation procedure for pesticides (PEST) of the European Parliament visited INRA’s Époisses Experimental Farm in Bretenière, France. Chaired by the French Member of the European Parliament Eric Andrieu, the committee’s objective is to review the research conducted to reduce pesticide use in agriculture.

On 27 August 2018, Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment, which aims to improve how science research is evaluated. INRA’s commitment to this global initiative reflects the Institute’s consideration and methodical developments in this area, from how a journal’s reputation is determined in a particular field or broadening the scope of assessment to the diversity of activities and products of targeted research.

Philippe Mauguin, President of INRA, hosted Hu Chunhua, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, and his delegation on 11 July 2018 at INRA’s Versailles centre with the Chinese Ambassador to France, Zhai Jun.
