On 19 September 2018, twenty representatives from the Special Committee on the Union’s authorisation procedure for pesticides (PEST) of the European Parliament visited INRA’s Époisses Experimental Farm in Bretenière, France. Chaired by the French Member of the European Parliament Eric Andrieu, the committee’s objective is to review the research conducted to reduce pesticide use in agriculture.

In a policy brief INRA and Wageningen University & Research state that the given CAP budget devoted to innovation is too limited and should be at least doubled in the next CAP period. To enhance innovation in agriculture the CAP itself should innovate too.

The 2017 INRA Awards ceremony was held in the prestigious Salle Gaveau concert hall in Paris on 20 November and rewarded the exceptional careers of 5 researchers and the outstanding work of a research team. Hosted by Thomas Hugues, it took place in the presence of Frédérique Vidal, French Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Stéphane Travert, Minister of Agriculture and Food.

Philippe Mauguin, the President of INRA, spoke during a meeting organised on 1st December in Paris by Stéphane Travert, Minister for Agriculture and Food, and Vytenis Andriukaitis, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety. They assembled representatives from the ten Member States most concerned by the major threat to plants represented by Xylella fastidiosa. A roadmap was drawn up to ensure reinforcement at the European level of measures to prevent and control this disease.
